Changes to the occupational pension agreement PA16 from 2024

From 1st of January 2024 there are changes if you are born before 1988 and belong to section 2 of the occupational pension agreement PA16. With the changes you earn into to your occupational pension until 69 years of age. Also, there is changes in how you can take out the different parts of your occupational pension. If you are born 1988 or later and belong to section 1 in PA16 there are no changes.

The following are the changes in brief. Depending on which year you were born there are different changes. 

If you are born between 1966 and 1987

  • Earn into your occupational pension until 69 years of age if you keep on working. You still earn into the defined benefit retirement pension until you are 65 years of age even if you keep on working. 
  • Will receive a new part paid of occupational pension, this is called Kåpan Flex. Your employer will pay into this part equivalent of 1,5 percent of your salary. You can use Kåpan Flex for example to reduce your working hours before retirement or take out as a part of your occupational pension. 
  • Will not be able to apply for part-time pension with your employer.
  • Earliest take out occupational pension from 63 years of age (not applicable for certain occupational groups that have a right to retire earlier)
  • The 14 first days of sickness you will receive payments into the occupational pension based on the whole salary, earlier this was 80 per cent of your salary. 

If you are born before 1966

  • Earn into your occupational pension until 69 years of age if you keep on working. To the defined benefit retirement pension, it is still calculated before 65 years of age. 
  • The 14 first days of sickness you will receive payments into the occupational pension based on the whole salary, earlier this was 80 per cent of your salary. 
  • Will receive a new part paid of occupational pension, this is called Kåpan Flex. Your employer will pay into this part equivalent of 1,5 percent of your salary. You can use Kåpan Flex for example to reduce your working hours before retirement or take out as a part of your total pension. If you currently have or have had part-time pension you will not receive this part. 
  • Will retain the possibility to receive part-time pension. If your employer decides that you will receive part-time pension the payment into Kåpan Flex will cease.

Earn into the occupational pension

I am born 1958 and will turn 66 years next year. Will the occupational pension be worse for from 1st January 2024?

Answer: No, it will be better if you keep on working. Then you will keep receiving payments to the selectable part and Kåpan Tjänste. You will also receive a new part called Kåpan Flex under the condition that you don't have or have had part-time pension.

I am born 1959 and will turn 65 years next year, do I need to do anything to continue receiving payments into occupational pension?

Answer: No, you will keep on earning into the selectable part, into Kåpan Tjänste and into Kåpan Flex (under the condition that you do not have or have had part-time pension) until you turn 69 years of age. 

What changes for me if I can keep on working for as long as I can?

Answer: You will earn into your occupational until you are 69 years of age. If you have a defined benefit retirement pension as a part of your occupational pension you earn into this part until 65 years of age. 

I am 66 years old and have not had payments into my occupational pension since I was 65 years. Will I receive payments into occupational pension again from 1 January and will I receive retroactively for the period when no payments were made?

Answer: Yes, from 1st of January 2024 you will receive payments into your selectable part, into Kåpan Tjänste and a new part called Kåpan Flex(under condition that you do not have or have had part-time pension, then you will not receive Kåpan Flex). Changes in the collective agreement is from the end of the year and not retroactively. 

I have extra payments into the occupational pension, will that continue to 69 years of age?

Answer: That is an agreement with your employer, either individually or collectively through the unions. Please contact your employer with this question. 

Part-time pension

Will the part-time pension be removed?

Answer: Both yes and no. The possibility for part-time pension will be removed if you are born 1966 or later. Bu the possibility will remain if you are born before 1966. Instead all will receive payments to a new part, Kåpan Flex. It can be used to reduce working hours before retirement. 

If I cannot get part-time pension, how will I be able to reduce working hours towards the end of my working life?

Answer: You can agree with your employer to reduce working hours and then take out Kåpan Flex as a replacement for reduced income. 

Can I get my part-time pension paid out until 66 years of age?

Answer: Yes, but only if you have the right to guarantee pension in your national public pension. Then your employer can choose to prolong the part-time pension until the month before you turn 66 years of age. 

Take out occupational pension

Can I work and take out occupational pension at the same time or do I need to end my state employment? 

Answer: You can start payments of Kåpan Tjänste, the selectable part, Kåpan Flex and Kåpan Extra without ending your state employment. But to be able to take out the defined benefit retirement pension you need to end your state employment. 

I am 56 years of age and ended my governmental employment in November 2015, before PA16 was active. Can I still take out my occupational pension at the age of 61 years?

Answer: No, it is now your age that determines when you can earliest take out your occupational pension. Since you belong to the age category Born 1966 to 1987 you can earliest take out your pension at 63 years of age.

I am born 1962 and thinking about retiring. Can I still retire at 61 years of age?

Answer: Yes, you can still retire at 61 years of age, there is no change for persons born before 1966.

If I don't take out Kåpan Flex to reduce my working hours, is the money then lost?

Answer::  No, it is a part of your occupational pension that you have earned into each month, same as Kåpan Tjänste and the selectable part. You can take out the part to reduce your working hours or take out as a part of your total pension. Your choice of how take out this part.
